Artist Statment

"It was Ms. Ryan, my kindergarten teacher who first saw the artist in me. I was drawing in class one day and looking over my shoulder she said 'Oh Tommy! That’s art nouveau!' And I turned around looking for some kid named Art. I didn’t realize it was an actual style. I feel so lucky to have teachers that really believed in me."

For Tom, all art projects start with sketching. His favorite medium has always been a number two pencil. Capturing a balance between light and dark that plays throughout all of this work starts with the shading and lines from the pencil. This gallery highlights sketched out concepts for series as well as pieces inspired by life experience and travel.
