Legends at the Stick

Artist Statment

"Baseball is a game that mirrors life. It teaches you to be a humble loser. Being able to create this series was the merging of two passions: baseball and art."

Tom always loved the great American game of baseball. So when Bob Wood, son of Hall of Famer Smokey Joe Wood showed up in Rodrigues Studio with a worn out suitcase full of baseball memorabilia, inspiration struck. What came was a series of 30 paintings of the game’s best players from Babe Ruth to Jackie Robinson. The collection was first exhibited on the field of Candlestick Park in 1993, "Legends at the Stick",  a first-of-its-kind interactive show. One of his paintings was permanently installed in the National  Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York in 1996.
